Tokenized Stock & ETF Trading Surges 39% as Binance Opens Equity Market
Published on June 1, 2026
Daily trading volume across tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) has surged 39% to $1.68 billion, according to data from RWA.xyz. The milestone comes as Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, launches trading in more than 7,000 US-listed equities and ETFs for non-US customers, marking a pivotal moment for the convergence of traditional finance and blockchain technology.
Binance’s Super App Strategy
Binance’s move, effective June 1, allows users outside the United States to buy and sell US stocks and ETFs with zero commission and fractional shares starting at $5. Customers can fund purchases using USD Coin (USDC), Tether (USDT), BNB, or other digital assets. The exchange has partnered with broker-dealer Nest Trading to arrange share purchases, while New York-based Alpaca Securities handles custody, dividend distribution, and corporate actions.
Binance Co-CEO Richard Teng described the initiative as part of a broader push to build a multi-asset financial super app. “US equities make up well over half of the global market, yet remain costly and hard to reach for many overseas investors,” Teng told Fortune.
bStocks: User-Initiated Tokenization
Binance also previewed bStocks, an upcoming feature that will let users convert purchased shares into tokenized assets on BNB Chain. This self-service tokenization process could enable near real-time settlement, bypassing the traditional one-day-plus clearing cycle. Once tokenized, these assets could be deployed in decentralized finance (DeFi) applications such as lending and liquidity provision, unlocking new utility for equity holdings.
The bStocks feature is expected in the coming weeks, further bridging the gap between centralized exchanges and decentralized ecosystems.
Technical and Market Implications
The 39% volume increase highlights growing demand for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). Tokenized equities offer several advantages: fractional ownership lowers entry barriers, 24/7 trading eliminates market-hour restrictions, and blockchain settlement reduces counterparty risk. However, regulatory hurdles remain, particularly in jurisdictions like the US, where Binance’s offering is not available.
From a technical perspective, tokenized stocks on BNB Chain leverage smart contracts for automated dividend distribution and corporate actions, streamlining processes that typically require manual intervention. The integration with DeFi also opens up yield-generating strategies, such as using tokenized shares as collateral for loans or providing liquidity in automated market makers.
Broader RWA Momentum
The surge in tokenized stock and ETF volume is part of a larger trend. According to RWA.xyz, the total value locked in tokenized assets has grown steadily, with equities and ETFs representing a significant portion. This growth is fueled by institutional interest and the desire for programmable, composable financial instruments.
Meanwhile, other market developments are driving attention to digital assets. Strategy chairman Michael Saylor posted a bubble chart on May 31 tracking nearly six years of Bitcoin purchases, signaling a potential new acquisition. Strategy holds 843,738 BTC, acquired at an average price of $75,701. Bitcoin was trading at approximately $73,566 on May 31, suggesting any new purchase would be below average cost.
